My sister is a badass Yoga teacher. In this post she shows you how to boost your vitality without losing momentum – when you have a hectic job with little time.
Millions of Things
So you have a million things to do in the office and deadlines coming out of your ears, screaming kids running around the house when you get home, and you’re trying to play the role of Bridget Bardot combined with superwoman with your husband, but actually end up more like Miss Hannigan from Annie after a glass or three of Pinot. With all of these things to worry about how could you possibly find time to be more present, let a lone fit in time for a yoga practice.
Cue modern life burnout!
Find Time For You
Sometimes the very idea of trying to find time for ourselves in the day makes a space mission to Jupiter seem more likely.
Always planning ahead and prioritising the needs of those around you gives you the sensation that you are being productive, useful, driven in fulfilling in your role as an employee/spouse/parent.
Ironically this type of hyper multi-tasking and role playing can often leave us feeling burnt-out and anything but productive, with a tired – running on empty – look about us.
And whilst I’m not saying that the idea of giving energy to other people is a waste of time, I for one as a yoga teacher thrive off the sharing my good vibes and knowledge with the world, you have to remember to keep a little of that energy aside to give to yourself as well as find ways to keep your levels topped up.
By dedicating a small part of our day to the practice of yoga, we ensure that our own reserves are regularly topped up.
Our practice gives us the power to face all the pit stops that life puts on us without running the risk of having to shut up shop for a bit.
How on earth can we possible keep on leading other people up if we have no energy left for ourselves!
All Things to All People
Stop trying to be all things to all people, and instead focus on being more present with how you’re distributing your energy. We are all guilty of multi-tasking and not fully dedicating ourselves to the task in front of us.
So next time you go for a walk with your kid in the park, turn off your mobile so as to not be tempted. Finish one task or project at work fully before moving onto the next, it will consume much less of your vital energy.
Next time you’re having some quality time with your spouse make it truly about each other, and feel how your vitality tank automatically gets topped up, simply by the act of being truly present with each other.
Make Time For You
But most importantly make sure that you make time for you in this life.
Even if you can only manage 20 minutes on your mat a day, take this time to rest your mind and energise your body and soul with positivity and self love.
These personal pit stops will guarantee you the vitality that you need to lead and inspire others and to make it a lot smoother ride at the helm of your journey through life.
